Digipak research
Digipak Research
Ed Sheeran has a similar target audience to my artists, as they both reach out to the indie pop genre. Ed Sheeran's digipak contains love songs, as does Chris Johnson who is my chosen artist.
Ed Sheerans cover of the '+' album promotes Ed Sheeran well as it has a close up shot of just his face so it establishes his image so the audience can remember his face. The orange colour connects with his orange hair, which is now a iconic feature to his image.
The inside cover portrays Ed Sheeran as being a "relaxed" artist since there is not a large amount of colour or design as it comes across as very simplistic. The digipak is a vibrant orange colour with black and white colour theme on the disc side of the Digipak. This makes Ed Sheeran's recognisable as his image connects with his music as it is simple but has a lot of hidden meaning.
Also his hair colour connects with the colour of the digipak as he has ginger hair and he is recognised for this, this makes hi stand out as not many artists have ginger hair in the music industry.

The back cover is plain and simple connecting with other Indie artists this helps sell his style and makes it easy for the buyer to understand what the digipak contains without it becoming to confusing.

Conventions of a digipak
Conventions of a digipak
Conventions of a digipak
What is a digipak and how is it similar/different to an album cover?
A digipak is a type of packaging for CDs or DVDs, typically made from cardboard with an internal plastic holder for one or more discs. The difference with a digipak to an album cover is that the digipak contains more information and a DVD of their music video. Whereas an album has a set of songs and doesn’t contain a DVD
Album covers Digipaks
4-8 faces are usual for a digipak, here are examples of some…
What do we usually find on the various faces of a digipak?
You would normally find that it contain the lyrics, tour dates, pictures, and information about the artist
Does there need to be a connection between the faces on the digipak?
There does need to be a connection between the faces as it all needs to link together in order for it to be understood by the audience.
Yes because as it is my artist’s debut album we need to see his face on the front of the cover to establish who he is as an artist.

Establishing the genre of my music video
My music video is an indie pop video, using a UN signed artist called Chris Johnson’s song ‘never made time’. The video focuses on a man lamenting the breakdown of his relationship with his girlfriend and mentioning the pain and sorrow that is engulfing him.
This is shown
through moments of solitude and being alone with his thoughts and emotions.
The genre of this music video could be identified as indie pop; this can be shown through the artist’s appearance by their clothing, which consists of casual clothing, including dark skinny jeans and jumpers. In my music video you see the artist wearing casual clothes, so he is able to fit the description of this genre.
Another element of identifying the genre is through the camera angles and the positioning of the artist, many indie pop videos include the band and they all perform closely together and the main singer is positioned in the centre of the lens. My video goes against this convention, as it doesn’t film the band it only films the main artist, as he is a solo artist. it still includes the same style of camera shots though as it shows close up shots of the artist.
Another way you can tell my video is an indie pop genre is that most indie pop genres are low budget videos, so the main settings that it takes place in are public areas, such as parks and woodland spaces. These locations create mysteries, which make the audience focus more on the performance. In my music video you can see it matches the conventions as most of the shots include woodland areas.
